Strameritato premio alla combattività. L’irlandese si lancia di nuovo in una lunghissima fuga, stavolta con tanti compagni ch diventano sempre meno grazie alla sua azione dirompente. Alla fine chiude la tappa al terzo posto ma si prende la maglia gialla, che un irlandese non indossava dal 1987, ai tempi di Stephen Roche. E già che c’è sfila anche la maglia bianca a Remco Evenepoel.
